At Lookaway Farm we emphasize a family atmosphere and supportive learning environment.
Each lesson is an individual one on one lesson with a Lookaway Farm instructor. We customize each lesson to your personal goals and needs. We offer beginning lessons for all ages and experience levels, and have the horses available to accommodate every student.
At Lookaway Farm we believe no horse enthusiast is to young or old to begin their horse experience. We have started children as young as 3 years old and taught beginners well into their retirement years.
Horse riding and showing as a sport promotes growth in children and adults alike. Obvious benefits include muscle development and improved coordination skills. Riding also helps students learn about working hard to accomplish goals, then setting new goals, work with other students as well as instructors and trainers, learn to push through frustrating concepts, think through tough problems, as well as keep patience with animals and teammates alike Showing can help students learn to work for their own personal best, to win and lose graciously, learning to cheer for your teammates, learning to come back from a disappointing defeat, learning to climb to greater heights, achieving a close teamwork relationship with a horse, conquering fears of performing in front of an audience, and much, much more.

Lesson Basics
Our policy is that each lesson is a private individual lesson with an instructor, we believe this allows for the student to progress at their pace rather than waiting for the entire group to move to the next level. This does not mean you will not ride with other students and horses in the ring, this helps students to learn to maneuver around others and obstacles in preparation for showing.
Lessons are scheduled by appointment, we do everything possible to accommodate your desired lesson time. The best way to ensure this is set up a weekly time specifically set for you. We do understand schedules change, as do ours, we are always flexible with scheduling.
For the best progress in riding, it is recommended the student ride once weekly, as they improve or become more interested, it is recommended to start more lessons a week.
Show riders are recommended to ride two to three times a week, taking a couple lessons a day.
For Your First Lesson:
It is mandatory that you wear pants and closed shoes (Heal and toe) for safety purposes. Generally Jeans and tennis shoes or boots with a semi smooth bottom and small 1/2 inch heel (not hiking boots) are appropriate.
We have helmets available for new students, if you already have a riding helmet you are welcome to use it. Do not bring bike helmets, they do not protect for the same type of fall as horse riding helmets do.
We will require a signed release form and emergency contact form filled out completely. If the student is under 18 the forms must be filled out and signed by a parent or legal guardian.
